My name is Cole Taylor
I’ve always been drawn to stories and what they can unlock within us. They have captivated me in all their various forms — video games, anime, books, movies — and I'm continually mesmerized by the imaginative worlds they open up.
Comparateively, these stories play out in such a different way than modern life typically does: disjointed routines, tasks that feel meaningless, and hollow relationships. Lately, I have been reflecting more and more on the tension this creates.
This site exists at the intersection within that tension.
A well crafted story has the potential to awaken something deep inside of us. The characters' lives aren't typically fragmented as our's are; they are driven by purpose and meaning; their relationships, goals, desires, and everything inbetween are all interconnected with one another.
Conversely, modern life can often feel fragmented and disjointed. Work, creativity, family, and personal growth are frequently separated into different compartments, and it’s easy to move through them without feeling like they connect to a larger whole or have any meaning.
This blog is my attempt to explore that tension in hopes of living a more meaningful life.
Here, you’ll find reflections on the stories and mediums that move me, observations on where modern life sometimes splits us apart, thoughts on ways we can bridge those pieces back together, and occasional glimpses into the things I’m building as I try to integrate those pieces together.
I don’t claim to have the answers. Most of what I write here is simply thinking out loud; trying to understand what makes life feel meaningful and how we might move a little closer to it. Or, sometimes just sitting with a story because its impact transcends anything we can fully comprehend.
Outside of writing, I live in the Dallas–Fort Worth area of Texas with my wife, our four kids, and my dad. We are usually doing life together at home but, when we get the occasional chance to vacation, we’re usually outside exploring nature, hiking trails, or chasing mountain views.
This website itself is something I built from the ground up using Ruby on Rails along with vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. In a small way, it’s part of the same experiment: creating a small corner of the internet where curiosity, creativity, and reflection can live together.
If something here resonates with you, I’m glad you found your way here.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoy exploring!
